Abstract. This study develops the “Smart Banking – Financial Stability” conceptual model and evaluates the association between banks’ digital scale and financial stability. The Smart Banking Index combines log-transformed and normalized measures of remote-banking users, bank cards, electronic payments, terminals and ATMs. Two-way fixed-effects models control for bank size and use bank-clustered standard errors. The average index increased from 0.612 in 2021 to 0.675 in 2024. The contribution is a four-layer transmission model linking digital resources, transaction activity, analytics and financial stability, together with an operational bank-level composite measure. The estimates are associations, not causal effects.
Keywords: smart banking, digitalization, commercial banks, financial stability, composite index, return on assets, cost-to-income ratio, non-performing loans, panel data.
